Prior to Owens: Marquette comes to Owens after helping lead Central Catholic to its first Ohio state final four appearance in school history. As a senior, he was named Honorable Mention All-City League and Honorable Mention All-District. Statistically, he had the top 3-point field goal percentage in the state of Ohio (52.1 percent) his senior year under head coach Jim Welling. Academically, he was named to the All-City Academic Team as a senior and is a 2011 Owens Academic Excellence Scholarship Recipient. His greatest personal sports thrill is defeating St. John's in the district finals and going on to the state final four his senior year.

 

Personal: Jay is the son of Greg and Jackie Marquette. His father played basketball for Owens in the 1970s, and his grandfather, Leroy "Cot" Marquette, was the first athletic director and men's basketball head coach at Owens beginning in 1966. He coached the team then known as the Penta Tech Jaguars from 1966-70 and helped the school to its first conference title during his tenure. Jay is a communications studies major at Owens.
